I believe no game but World of Warcraft would be granted a cinematic trailer with full voice over, just for a new patch release. That’s right, patch 3.3 for World of Warcraft is out, and so is the trailer for it.
But that’s OK, that means I get to her the voice of Earl Boen again. They guy who does the voice for the zombie pirate LeChuck in the Monkey Island games, and the narrator in World of Warcraft. Seriously, that guy must have the coolest voice in the world, perhaps only beaten slightly by Christopher Lee.
Activision Blizzard is getting sued, and the filer is none other than the infamous Erik Estavillo. Estavillo has previously filed law suits against Microsoft; Sony and Nintendo, for various reasons, all of them rejected.
The issue this time is Estavillo’s claim that the game progression in World of Warcraft is deliberately set at a low pace, to make sure that playes stay longer in the game and pay their monthyly fee. Estavillo especially makes a point of his character’s walking speed, for some reason.
I wonder if anybody really had any doubts that this is part of the game design. Of course Blizzard designed the game to keep players hooked. Anything else would be terrible game design and a complete mockery of the marketing department.
Obviously, Estavillo is also a complete video game addict, relying heavily on video games for the little ongoing happiness he has left in his life.
Sad story, no doubt about it. Perhaps he should see a psychiatrist?
What exactly is it with game developers and brain eating zombies? It seems like a common concept fetish for brains in the industry to constantly wanting it to get eaten. I have played a few zombie themed games throughout my career as a game slave, and I have to admit; I can’t seriously recall a good one.
Obviously the newly opened Undead Labs has one of those minds; veteran Jeff Strain. As he puts it, he got this idea from him and his friends philosophizing after having seen good zombie films about what they would do if they were in the situation of being chased by brain eating zombies.
The idea is none other than a zombie massive multiplayer online game, or MMO. Exclusively for console, that is.
I don’t know about you, but that has to be one of the worst ideas for a game concept I’ve heard in a long time. And I read indie game forums filled with wacky developers with wackier ideas.
However, I never saw a zombie film that I thought was good either. I guess my taste of quality is just too damn good.
Not really, but its Norwegian developer Funcom is having a hard time making ends meet. With a breathtaking loss of $9.6 million USD, things could look brighter. Not too long ago the company sacked a big proportion of its employees due to financial problems.
Why all these bad news for a MMORPG that not too long ago seemd to be a thrill? Perhaps because it turned out to be the biggest disappointment in MMORPG history!
Reviews were good, and the experience seemed pleasant. Sadly, most reviewer obviously didn’t care to play for more than the first 25 levels before, hastily, scribbling a review recommending Age of Conan to the ignorant masses. This is about the state where the game really starts to hit the fan.
I did play it, and along with most other players I got bored with it when I saw what a piece of rubbish this game really is. The lead designer fled the sinking ship, along with the rest of the sane world.
